Accessibility Statement
Audrain County Sheriff’s Office — audrainsheriff.com
Last Updated: September 21, 2026
Our Commitment
The Audrain County Sheriff’s Office is committed to ensuring digital accessibility for people with disabilities. We continually improve the user experience for everyone and apply relevant accessibility standards. Our goal is for audrainsheriff.com to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 Level AA, the standard referenced by Title II of the Americans with Disabilities Act for state and local government websites.
Current Conformance Status: This website does not yet fully conform to WCAG 2.1 Level AA. Remediation is in progress.
54 Design Group, LLC completed an initial WCAG 2.1 Level AA technical audit of this website on September 17, 2026, covering 10 selected pages, and re-scanned the site on September 21, 2026 after fixes were made. We re-scanned all ten pages with two automated tools. Image descriptions and form labels were manually checked by an auditor. Manual testing is not yet complete as of this update.
What Has Been Fixed
Text color contrast in the navigation menu and on form labels and buttons has been corrected (WCAG 1.4.3). Verified by two automated tools.
Social media icon links in the site header now have text labels for screen readers (WCAG 2.4.4 and 4.1.2). Verified by two automated tools on all tested pages. This fix was implemented with custom code for Squarespace 7.0.
Bold text that acted as section headings on the Civil Process and Cadet Program pages is now marked up as real headings (WCAG 1.3.1).
Heading order has been corrected on four pages: Accessibility, Cadet Program, Contact Us, and Records Request Form (WCAG 1.3.1).
An auditor checked the form fields on the Contact Us and Records Request pages, and they are labeled (WCAG 1.3.1 and 3.3.2). If you have difficulty completing a form, please call us, and we will help. We implemented this fix with custom code for Squarespace 7.0.
We corrected the heading order on two pages (Community Resources and Crime Victim Notification) (WCAG 1.3.1).
We reviewed the Facebook icon, the staff photo descriptions, and the banner image on the Divisions page with a person and corrected them (WCAG 1.1.1, 1.4.5, and 4.1.2). We implemented this with custom code for Squarespace 7.0.
Known Limitations
Facebook Feed on the home page (WCAG 1.1.1). A third-party service (POWR) provides the feed and displays pictures from Facebook posts without text descriptions. We cannot change that content. You can view our posts directly at facebook.com/AudrainSheriff.
Map on the Contact Us page (WCAG 1.1.1 and 1.3.1). Google Maps provides the map; some image elements aren't described to screen readers, and its keyboard-shortcuts panel uses a layout table. Our address and phone number are provided as text on this website: 1100 Littleby Road, Mexico, MO 65265; (573) 473-5800.
Repeated links on content preview cards (WCAG 2.4.4). The website is built on Squarespace 7.0. Its built-in preview cards link an image and a title separately to the same page, so a screen reader may announce the same link twice. This slows navigation but does not block any task. Fixing it requires a custom code change or a future platform upgrade.
Content Removed or Retired
No content has been removed or retired as part of this remediation as of the date above. If the Facebook Feed or map is replaced or removed to resolve an accessibility barrier, this statement will be updated.
Our Remediation Commitments
Complete manual testing (see below) and publish the results by updating this statement.
Review the website for accessibility whenever significant content changes are made, and add meaningful alt text to every new image when you upload it.
Conduct an accessibility review at least once every 12 months, or after any major redesign or platform change.
Manual Testing
Automated tools cannot find every barrier, so we also reviewed this site manually. Manual testing included keyboard-only navigation, the NVDA screen reader on a computer, VoiceOver on iPhone and TalkBack on Android, page zoom to 400%, color contrast on hover and focus, form labels and error messages, and human review of images and alternative text. This testing was completed as of the date above.

We welcome feedback on the accessibility of our website. If you have difficulty accessing any content, or need information in an alternative format, please contact us:
